Air Canada’s shares soared after the deal gave investors some comfort it’ll survive. Shares rose more than 23%, gaining 38 cents, to close at $2 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

While the funding alleviates concerns that the troubled carrier will have to file for bankruptcy protection for at least 24 months, it also adds $76 million a year in additional interest expenses.

Despite the challenges of securing funding without the banks, it now faces the task of reducing costs and generating positive cash flows.

Analyst Chris Murray of CIBC World Markets said if Air Canada is going to be sustainable as a business, it’s got to make money flying people and planes. “I think you’ll start seeing fares move higher and part of that is an increase in demand,” he said.

After assuming the helm in April, CEO Calin Rovinescu said he hoped to ride the wave of an economic recovery after addressing pension costs, labour stability and capital funding.

Pet fanatics rejoice! Your pet can now enjoy the luxury of traveling in the main cabin rather than in cargo on Pet Airways, the first airline to dedicate itself to pet-friendly travel. I’m a pet owner and even a fanatic, I do believe that animals should enjoy a safe and comfortable ride, just like us humans. So it’s about time something like this arrived, although today’s current economic climate makes it an interesting time to launch such a venture.
So here’s how it works. First, you can buy your ticket on the Pet Airways website, where you also specify the animal’s height and weight. Sample round-trip fares for small- to medium-sized dogs traveling between New York City and L.A. in September cost $698 round-trip (a lot of dough to throw down for your pet!). That would also include a no-fee overnight stopover for your pet in Chicago. Shorter flights are direct and cost upwards of $300 round-trip, depending on your pet’s height and weight. For extra comfort, you can upgrade your pet’s carrier for an additional $50.
On the day of travel, the pampering starts prior to takeoff in a special pet lounge or even at an overnight PAWS Lodge, where you can check your pet in up to 72 hours before flying. Once on board the aircraft (in this case, a modified turboprop… how green!), animals are regularly monitored by in-flight pet attendants, plus get a bathroom break on arrival before heading over to the pickup lounge for that happy reunion with their owners. And because Pet Airways loves pets so much, it even offers to hold them overnight at the PAWS Lodge in case owners can’t pick them up (although if you care enough about your pet to buy it a first-class seat, you should care enough to pick it up on time). Oh yeah, you can even track where your pet is at any time using the airline’s pet tracker. Genius!

Keep in mind Pet Airways currently accepts dogs and cats only, plus pets taller than 33 inches or heavier than 120 pounds are not allowed. Flights start this July between five metropolitan airports within driving distance of New York City, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.

No more worries for your pet, they can now join you wherever you will go… I love my pets very much.. I’m happy for this fares like this.. I’m thankful for the pet airways airlines..

Philippine Airlines will raise up their services to major international and domestic destinations during the upcoming peak summer travel period, highlighted by the upgrading of its Vancouver service to a daily frequency and the addition of flights to local tourist hotspots Boracay and Busuanga.

From March 23, PAL will operate a direct flight to Vancouver every Monday and Wednesday, filling the only two days of the week when the service does not operate.

Unlike the other five days, however, the new service will not continue on to Las Vegas and will operate simply on a turnaround basis.

It injects much-needed capacity into PAL’s Vancouver route, the only direct link between Canada and the Philippines, and has long been sought by the sizeable Filipino migrant community in Canada as well as by the business and leisure segments of the market.

PR 116 departs Manila every Monday and Wednesday at 1:05 p.m., arriving in Vancouver at 10:20 a.m. the same day. The return service, PR 117, departs Vancouver at 1:00 p.m. and arrives in Manila at 5:50 p.m. the next day.

Widebody Airbus A340-300 aircraft, which seats 264 passengers in a bi-class layout, will continued to be deployed on the route.

The existing five-times-a-week service from Manila to Vancouver, onward to Las Vegas and vice-versa, operated every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will be maintained.

Meanwhile, PAL will add one weekly flight each to its popular trans-Pacific services to the U.S. West Coast gateways of Los Angeles and San Francisco for the duration of the summer.

An extra Airbus A340-300 flight will operate to Los Angeles every Friday from April 10 to June 19 while another A340-300 flight will serve San Francisco every Sunday from April 12 to June 21.

The additional flights increase total frequency to Los Angeles to ten times weekly and to San Francisco to eight times weekly for the summer.

In the domestic sector, the flag carrier’s low-fares, turbo-propeller unit PAL Express will mount more flights across its network of secondary domestic routes, particularly to island destinations that are huge tourist draws during the summer months.

From March 20, PAL Express will add one daily flight between Manila and Caticlan, gateway to the resort island of Boracay, boosting total frequency on the busy route to 11 flights daily.

On the same day, PAL Express will operate a second daily frequency between Manila and Busuanga, the largest of the Calamian group of islands in northern Palawan that host the country’s most exclusive beach resorts.

The new frequency is an afternoon service that complements the current morning flight. PR 033 departs Manila at 1:00 p.m. and arrives in Busuanga at 2:05 p.m. Return flight PR 034 departs Busuanga at 2:30 p.m. and arrives in Manila at 3:35 p.m.

PAL Express will also add two weekly flights between Cebu and Cagayan de Oro to increase total frequency to five times weekly.

Likewise, PAL will augment its regular jet services between Manila and Bacolod, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Kalibo, Legazpi, Puerto Princesa and Tacloban with additional flights of varying frequency throughout the summer season.
